Day of Mindfulness: A silent urban retreat

Note: This is a silent retreat. Everyone is welcome. No experience with Yoga is necessary.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned after 14 years of teaching is that in order to take care of others, I must find ways to take care of myself. I’ve also learned that in order to support the people in my life to live in a balanced way, I have to embody practices that help me to do the same–these practices have to “live in my muscles.” This mini retreat is designed to help rest and reflection live in our muscles so that we can be more present for others.
I’ve been lucky to attend different retreats over the years and whether they were one day or many days, the time to pause, reflect, and regroup was always so valuable and most definitely had ripple effects out into my “normal” life. It’s often difficult for teachers and parents to find the time to get away, so this urban retreat was designed with this reality in mind. Imagine a day to rest, practice yoga, meditate, reflect on where you are and where you’d like to go…all just a subway ride away! I’ve filled the schedule with guided, nourishing practices, silence, and time for self-reflection. The retreat takes place in a beautiful studio space overlooking a ravine in the east end of Toronto.

 

A day of renewal, self-care, and quiet inspiration!

10:00 Welcome and opening (guided) meditation

10:30 Gentle flow Yoga, pranayama (guided conscious breathing), relaxation

12:00 Journal/self-reflection time

12:30 Lunch (please bring your lunch for a silent, mindful meal in the studio or outdoor space)

1:00 Walking meditation (outside in the ravine…please dress for the weather)

1:30 Pranayama and meditation

2:15 Break (tea and healthy snacks provided)

2:30 Restorative Yoga and Yoga Nidra (guided relaxation)

3:45 Closing

We invite you to join us for a half-day of rest, rejuvenation, and inspiration. A time to invest in yourself. A space for self-care and quiet reflection. We want to offer you a chance to connect with other inspiring teachers, parents, and leaders who prioritize wellness. We want to give you permission to be yourself. We will share some tools and tricks we have gathered over many years of teaching yoga and mindfulness, and working with young people. Learn to connect mind and body within yourself, and learn how to help children do the same in fun, creative ways! Resources and take-aways provided, including arts-based yoga and mindfulness activities for young children.

Teachers, assistants, social workers, child and youth workers, early childhood educators, therapists, yoga teachers, parents and caregivers welcome.
