An Experiential Yoga Workshop for Educators

A dream of mine is coming true…the opportunity to share my love of Yoga, and my belief in its transformative power, with other teachers. For those of you who work with children, you know that you are constantly being offered ideas: activities, projects, classroom management tips…While I am not discounting any of these things, what I am suggesting is that spending a bit of time each day engaged in a personal , mindful practice like Yoga, will begin a ripple effect. Whether or not you choose to offer Yoga to your students, they will still reap the benefits of your practice. This is an invitation to join me on this exploration. See all the details below!

Classroom Heartbeat:

A workshop exploring the impact of teacher mindfulness on classroom life

A teacher who explores his or her own contemplative mind is better able to help his or her students to do the same. The teacher-student dynamic is enhanced through this mutual exploration, and ultimately the teacher’s own growth transforms the entire space in which education happens.

(Hart, 2004)

This workshop is born out of the passionate belief that a teacher creates, consciously or unconsciously, the heartbeat of a classroom. Whether the heartbeat races and promotes anxiety, or beats steadily and promotes calm, can be connected back to the teacher’s ability to reflect, process, and ultimately operate from a clear mind and an expansive heart.

Dana’s more than ten years experience teaching in elementary classrooms in the Toronto District School Board and at the Institute of Child Study, has allowed her the wonderful opportunity to observe the impact of her daily yoga and mindfulness practice on the space she shares with children.

This workshop seeks to introduce teachers to the possibility that their own mindfulness practice can transform classroom life. Ideas to incorporate into elementary classrooms will be touched upon but the primary focus will be the embodiment of a personal practice. Leave feeling rested, restored, and inspired to work with students in a new way.
